Spatiotemporal Evolution of Seasonal Crop-Specific Climatic Indices under Climate Change in Greece Based on EURO-CORDEX RCM Simulations

چکیده

This study presents an updated assessment of the projected climate change over Greece in near future (2021–2050) and at end 21st century (2071–2100) (EOC), relative to reference period 1971–2000, focusing on seasonal crop-specific climatic indices. The indices include days (d) with: a maximum daily near-surface temperature (TASMAX) > 30 °C Spring, TASMAX 35 Summer (hot days), minimum (TASMIN) < 0 (frost days) TASMIN 20 (tropical nights) Spring–Summer precipitation (PR) 1 mm (wet Spring covering critical periods which wheat, tomatoes, cotton, potato, grapes, rice olive are more sensitive water and/or stress. analysis is based ensemble 11 EURO-CORDEX regional model simulations under influence strong, moderate, no mitigation Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP2.6, RCP4.5 RCP8.5, respectively). related expected increase by up 40 Summer, tropical nights rise 50 days, frost decrease wet decline 9 EOC with RCP8.5. increased heat stress deficit have negative crop impacts, contrast positive effects anticipated days. constitutes further step towards identifying commodities regions which, change, or will be significantly impacted.

Daily precipitation statistics in a EURO-CORDEX RCM ensemble: Added value of raw and bias-corrected high-resolution simulations

Daily precipitation statistics as simulated by the ERA-Interimdriven EURO-CORDEX regional climate model (RCM) ensemble are evaluated over two distinct regions of the European continent, namely the European Alps and Spain. The potential added value of the high-resolution 12 km experiments with respect to their 50 km resolution counterparts is investigated. The statistics considered consist of we...

Mutagenesis in crop improvement under the climate change

The purpose of mutation induction is to enhance mutation rate in a short duration in developing new plant varieties. The occurrence of spontaneous mutation frequency rate is very low and difficult to use in plant breeding. Traditionally mutations are induced by physical (e.g. gamma radiation) and chemical (e.g. ethylmethane sulfonate) mutagen treatment of both seed and vegetatively propagated c...

Farmers’ Perception Regarding Impact of Climate Change on Wheat Crop Production in Layyah District-Pakistan

Pakistan is at 28th amongst the countries that are going to be hurt badly by climate change. It falls in ten major wheat-producing countries of the world in terms of area, production and yield per hectare. Global warming, as a result of climate change, may negatively affect morphological characters of wheat. The present study was undertaken in district Layyah to find out the impact of climate c...
